This is a short history of the origins and evolution of modern kendo as we know it. It is based on a comprehensive capture of its roots and the forces which shaped it over the past 400+ years with emphasis of its form in the late 19th and into the mid-20th century. Prof Alec Bennett is Kendo Kyoshi 7th Dan, and has a PhD in Budo History from Kyoto University.
These videos show very clean, on the most part, kendo. All age groups and male/female kendoists. All are encouraged to watch these. The videos make it a little difficult to see why points are not scored—it’s usually because off weak ki ken tai or the hit is off-center/off-Hasuji (cutting angle). Good examples of straight kendo with lots of seme and waza. Please make sure you watch the ones titled 118th 6-Dan Renshi Enbu Taikai
